Replying to LO5859 --

Organizations are classically weak at using codified knowledge
systematically to clarify role relationships and accountabilities. The
works of Elliot Jaques on "Requisite Organization" offers a great deal of
information of practical value in how vertical, diagonal and lateral role
relationships of various types work. This work can be directly applied
along with codified knowledge about how various types of teams work, to
build rules and structures which everyone understands and can follow to
give expression to new learning organization work environments.
I have used his work quite successfully in transforming one complex
knowledge and service organization. The results have led me to
development of improved approaches to partnerships across organizations
when dealing with complexity and many unknowns - an approach which will be
published in June.
