- learning in the development of information systems (LDIS). and,
- TeamUp approach to project planning and management and learning systems
(TU).
LDIS, - I have a book coming out on this (Learning with Information
Systems, Routledge, ISBN 0-415-10603-6) and have spent time as a
reflective practitioner in developing countries approaching the issue of
self-analysis. I am fascinated by the way we (I!) miss our own assumptions
and often superimpose our belief systems into the areas of work endevour
with no idea about local culture and the mass of views and conceptions
about what should be the basis for analysis (even if we do stakeholder
analysis). IS represents an interesting area for learning and I am at
present begining to think about linking the Zachman IS framework into the
Senge five-fold approach (with copious influences from UK systems (e.g.
Checkland, et al) and IS methodology (e.g. Wood-Harper and the Multiview
approach)). Its all a bit of a cats cradle at present and I would welcome
thoughts from practitioners on various things which interest me, e.g.:
How can IS and LO be combined so that IS (maybe MIS most specifically) is
enagaged in the process of learning for/ and supplementing learning in/
organisations?
Where is the frontier of discovery in this domain - who do you feel are
the main outriders?
Where are personal learning odysseys on the curve to greater
understanding, where are you right now in the self-learning process?
What insights might we expect from a throrough going LO approach to IS?
Might the expectancy of classes of insight be the basis for a LO/IS
framework?
TU is a fascinating approach to project management. It combines (it is?) a
learning tool. Who has used it and what do you think? I am anxious for
case studies in this domain.
