Hello everyone! My name is Estevam de Toledo, and am currently working for
Belgo Mineira Sistemas (BMS), recently ranked 10th among the largest firms
of the computer service sector, in Brazil. We are part of a private
conglomerate of 30 enterprises engaged in mining, reforestation and
charcoal production, agriculture and live stock, production of wires,
steel cables, automotive parts and services.

BMS is the result of a merging process done by the mother Company, Belgo
Mineira (CSBM), in 1984, that included a former Electronic Data Processing
Department plus the T&D sector of a Human Resources Department at CSBM. I
joined CSBM in 1974 and my duties have always been related to the
implementation of both internal and external OD consultancy projects. I
recently, that is, in the latest 4 years, have been working as an
Assistant/Facilitator for the implementation of a TQM program at BMS with
corporate connections. Along my career I had the chance to study, practice
and do some writing on subjects like Accident Prevention, Distance
Education, Consultancy and the Institutional impacts of automation on
organizations. I also did a Post-graduate Diploma in Adult Education at
Manchester University, England (1970/71).

I still didn't have the chance to do a Course or join workshops on
Learning Organization and my knowledge of the subject is chiefly based on
the ideas I picked from the reading of "Building a learning organization",
by David A. Garvin, and "The knowledge-creating company", by Ikujiro
Nonaka. Joining this group has really been a most pleasant experience and
it frequently brings me back a reflexion done somewhere else, I think in
Scandinavian lands, that says that "we should go to people, not to books".
Here we have the advantage of making contacts with both of them. I will be
glad to exchange ideas directly with my fellow LO colleagues, and have
also the intention to present my ideas and perceptions on the varied
themes examined by the group. Thank you very much. Best regards from
Toledo.
