Hello, my name is Ron Boyce and I work for Syncrude Canada Ltd. Syncrude
is an oil company and our product comes from the massive oil-sands here at
Fort McMurray, a city of 35,000 people located in northern Alberta,
Canada. By the way, I thought some of you "southerners" might be
interested in knowing that the temperature here today is - 42 degrees C.

Syncrude has a workforce of approximately 3500 employees and I work as an
H.R. Advisor in the Education and Development Division. I am a graduate of
Memorial University of Newfoundland where I received B.A. and B.Ed.
degrees with major in Mathematics. I also hold an M.A. from Gonzaga
University, Spokane, Washington. After teaching in the secondary school
system for 12 years in Newfoundland, I resigned from teaching and moved to
Alberta in search for greener pastures. And guess what? I found them!

I found them here at Fort McMurray, when I joined Syncrude in 1980.
Syncrude is a very progressive company and a very exciting place to work
Our mandate here at Education and Development (there are seven of us) is
to research and make available leadership and team development
opportunities for the whole company. With the exception of computer
training, we have very limited involvement in technical training. Each one
of our 4 operating departments (we call them strategy centers) have their
own technical training units.

That's it for starters. I look forward to participating in this group and
learning from all of you.
