Rol Fessenden reminds us that individual personality plays a huge role in
the success of cross-functional teams. Might I add that organizational or
corporate culture plays at least as large a role. If the larger
organization does not support and role model responsibility and
initiative, then the success of any team effort is imperiled.
Cross-functional teams CAN succeed in that environment, but the
individuals must be prepared to swim upstream the entire trip.
