Re Hitler and lessons re communication -- [Probably LO4784]

Hitler's success was a consequence of a large-scale failure to understand
systemic consequences. The train of events probably began in 1870, but
certainly by 1918. As a result of those events, Germany was ripe for a
demagogue. Perhaps many other types of leaders could have given us a
happier outcome, but he was there, and the ground was ripe. Does that
mean that communications failed? I don't think so. Books have been
written on what failed, but I don't think one can safely argue that the
lesson is to beware of communicatons.

On the other hand, I agree that communications can become an end in
itself, and in that way interfere or even eliminate productivity.
Personally, I believe that this is one of the values of hierarchy -- to
help a group, or groupsof groups, achieve a balance that provides high
quality information in such a quantity that overall productivity is high.
