My Masters' Thesis is challenging the mental models resulting from the
designs taught in most MBA programs about organizations today. I perceive
a flaw with not necessarily the intent, but the presentation of the
"matrixed organization." In the matrixed organization, functions which
operate or run the business, manufacturing, sales, marketing, etc are
aligned vertically; processes (product realization, solution delivery,
etc) are aligned horizontally. These major business activities operate at
or on a different plane. However, when depicted in the form of a picture
or chart, the matrix appears one dimensional. Because we record the
abstraction we see (the one dimension model), we interact with one another
on or in one dimension.

This creates the potential for conflict at every intersection of the
chart, because the goals for the functional activity and the goals of the
process activity are by DESIGN in conflict.

What I propose is a "new look" at the view of the design ---
multi-dimensional.

Does this make any sense?
