In an earlier post I mentioned the notion of "order fulfillment teams"
consisting of Customer Service, Quality, and Manufacturing Engineering
Teams. As products and markets change, the informaton content of an
organization changes. A customer rep may have to shift to a focussed
factory making a different "product family" because the customer is trying
to infiltrate the competition's market, or is playing catch-up, etc.
Besides cross-functionality, virtual team members need be "scalable,
flexible, and plug-compatible".
It might be a good thing to establish some metrics for virtual
organizations here.
