In an earlier post, I referred to an organization I worked for. We were in
the beginnings of team learning, had shared vision and got bought. I moved
from operations to a directorate of planning and improvement. My master
plan flattened the organization dramatically, with Order Fulfillment teams
consisting of customer service, manufacturing, and quality engineers
running focused factories. When I left, so did the vision. When I visit
now, there are managers and managers of managers and little staffs and big
staffs and all with very narrow focus and limited accountability. The job
free concept disappeared as well. The funny part of it, though, is that
the current CEO wants everything we talk about here to happen. Something
about cash flow...
