Hmmm. Well, I must misunderstand Maslow's Hierarchy. For years
I've used it as a means of helping me sense the subliminal needs of
groups, particularly in conflict resolution. I was working off Maslow's
premise that lower order needs must be sufficiently satisfied before one
experiences a "dynamic tension" to advance to the next order of needs.

I wonder how useful the Maslow Needs Hierarchy would be without
the "dynamic tension" aspect that helps us understand why individuals and
cultures care nothing for learning about birth control while they're
worrying about their next meal.
