Executives need to become aware of the changes in business rules and the
shifting focus in, what is today, a global marketplace. It used to be ok
to think only of local or regional issues. Nowadays, a competitor from
the other side of the world can sweep in and take your market share. It
used to be a reality that the majority of employees were satisfied with
their daily tasks, and didn't really know a lot about the business end, or
what was going on. Nowadays, everyone has the ability and the desire to
know what's happening in their own company, and around the world.

Executives also have to be aware, it's not

if they aren't getting new furniture now, if they aren't moving towards
new mental models, and new ways of looking at business, it may already be
too late.
