Again, I believe that among the factors that contribute to the
success of these organizations is, as you said the commitments of their
empployees or members. But, it is important to realize that these members
"buy" into the whole mission and goals of the organization, and develop a
personal vision related to their long-term association and their own
success within these organizations. For, instance most of these members
develop the notion, soon after they join the organization, that they will
retire from them after scalating to this or that position. This is great
because, then employees see that most of the activities and tasks they
perform will take them on that career path that they envisioned. There is
growth and the hope to reach the highest positions, if not in the whole
organization, at least in some specialized area. Fire Departments are
exactly like this too. There are many events, rituals, and other
practices that reinforce these notions.
