I am jumpiong way ahead of myself because I have a large number of
messages before this one that I have not read yet! The problem between
teaching and learning, at least in the US, is that must of us see teaching
as a situation where I, the professor, talk, and they, the students,
listen and learn. This has nothing to do with how teachig and learning
have been defined by the different dictionaries. It is more how we
practice the teaching profession.

Teaching to me, after some 15 years in the higher education business, is
when the full responsibility for the transfer of information and its
interpretation falls on the teacher's lap. Learning to me is where the
student (learner or participant) assumes some (or a lot of) responsibility
for the process. For instance, when we have these great, outstanding
lecturers who come around once in a while, they do some teaching. Deming
did some of that everytime he was in front of a big group of people. But,
for the most part, college professor should concentrate or emphasize
learning over teaching.
