I think I've created or invited a monster onto my e mail.
Friday, I was suring the net (jargon?) searching for some links to
concepts around organizational wellness, organizational health etc.
Bingo. Somewhere along the line I found you folks and signed up.
So far, good stuff, I'm sure it will help me and as I struggle with
some of the challenges of this organization I hope I can contribute as
well. Hey this is supposed to be an introduction.

My name is Derek Hamlet and I am Assistant Director HR for the Forest
Service in British Columbia.

Over the past 2 years this organization has/is gone/going through a
major reorganization with all of its inevitable twists and complications.
In addition there has been major changes to funding, goals, legislation,
stakeholder groups (environmentalists, aboriginal groups etc.).
In short, our traditions have been challenged, battered and we are in the
process of reforming.

The executive has decided that one of the key strategic goals is to build
a "healthier Forest Service organization." Derek, take care of that will
you.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

There are those who want to see it as a healthier employee initiative --
more accommodation, more flexible work/leave policies, health club
memberships, bike racks etc. That should and will be part of it.

However, there is a lot more. I'm sure of it, but, not quite sure where
to begin.

What I need is data. If anyone is feeling in a mentorship mood, I would
appreciate some links on the web, books titles, organizations that have or
are going through this stuff as we speak. I want to steal ideas.

Sorry, forgot the bio. 50 years old, 2 almost adults as kids; I'm a mad
motorcyclist (vintage and touring -own 8 bikes along with my wife who is
equally besotted with European 2 wheeled vehicles. Make wine, read
voraciously, never watch TV (well almost never), try to keep my body fit,
am mildly paranoic and have a great zest for life.

Looking forward to participating in the dialogue on this list.
