In response to David Hurst's question:

"BTW has anyone used extended periods of silence

I have use a silent brainstorming method for the past couple of years to
simulate problem solving in collaborative groups. It has been quite
effective in analysing problems and building committment to solutions. It
keeps individuals from dominating and allows the quite members of a team a
chance to contribute. The actual process is call an Affinity Diagram and
is done with sticky pads and markers.. If you would like to know more
about this CQI technique I would be happy to share..

Host's Note: I also use the Affinity Diagramming technique and basic info
can be found in some of the quality books. Also known as the "KJ method"

By the way, I have been lurking for a few days and have found the
discussions on this list to be wonderful. As someone who has been in the
role of changing organizations for all my career, I find this list to be
an exciting resource..
