Replying to LO2728 --

I like the concept, repeated in many different moods and contexts
throughout this thread, that "noise" is essential and healthy. I am a
little disturbed that this healthiness is contrasted with orderliness and
efficiency, especially when talking about interrelationships among people.
In my view, the absence of noise is "good" for the same reasons that noise
is "good" but in different contexts. Often we contrast divergent and
convergent thinking; indeed in Peter's brainstorming example, we often
teach people to jump around freely at first, but then it's time to narrow
down the field and focus on just a few ideas. In this instance, we want
noise at first, but then we prefer its absence.
