I've been following this debate about military versus civilian
organizations with some interest. I have not been in the military, but
worked as a contractor to the Air Force for a number of years. Now that I
work in a commercial environment (o.k., monopolistic environment), one of
the things I miss is the sense of COMMON PURPOSE found in military
organizations. The military spends a lot of resources making sure that
it's members are "on the same page" - which goes along way in reducing the
conflicts that most of us endure in our commercial workplaces.
