This method is applicable to any situation. Guidance of some sort is
recommended, whether simply reading and applying the instructions from
various competent sources or learning from experienced practitioners.

This problem solving method for continuous improvement is promulgated by
the Center for Quality Management in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In the
spirit of mutual learning on the part of Analog Devices, Inc.; Teradyne,
Inc.; Bolt, Baranek & Newman, Inc.; and M.I.T., Professor Shoji Shiba,
Richard Lynch and Ira Moskowitz have developed explicit directions for it.
