Rick, The Natural Step strikes me as one place to start: an idea whose
time has come. It's an issue an a strategy which is global, and which
requires many local conversations. The LO network might take it on as a
project. It might help make our conversations here more concrete as well.
We might being to create regional conferences, for instance--working
conferences designed to bring corporate decision-makers, public
policy-makers and others into dialogue around this issue. The combination
of commitment to dialogue and the exploration of a compelling issue which
cuts across all geographical and organizational boundaries seems
promising.

Another idea links up with the subject of fun, play, which has surfaced
here recently. For several years I have been picturing the New Year's Eve
Party for the next milennium--New Year's Eve 2000. We could have a lot of
fun bringing people around us into dialogue creating a shared meaning for
that event.

I have pictured a 24-hour celebration, with "programming" coming from each
time zone as the milennium begins in that part of the world: music,
dance, poetry, prayer, silence.

Why not generate a conversation now for creating this as a pivotal event?
How could we use it to acknowledge who we have been and what we have done
up to this point in human history--with accuracy, humility--and to share
our visions for the world we see unfolding? What could be accomplished
between now and then in the process of planning the celebration?

With what friends and partners would we want to share that event? Would
it be possible to make it so "real" in the envisioning and planning that
this shared future had an influence on how we conduct ourselves today?

Hasn't humanity always been a learning organization? Maybe we can
increase the learning curve by formulating and taking on a project
together.
