This is an important distinction. It is perhaps for that reason that it
has been drawn many times in the past decade, by many different thinkers,
using (unhappily) many different nomenclatures.

For example, I've seen this in the form

"data" (for uninterpreted computer stuff in a database)
versus "information" (for the same stuff understood by a human)
