Replying to LO1644 --

Barry's addition to the discussion of individual selflessness opens many
avenues for discussion. I do believe that it is possible for humanity to
attain a heart of mature selflessness. I certainly do not believe for one
moment that that sort of maturity will be embraced by everyone. I don't
believe that everyone on this earth is interested in or capable of what I,
personally, see as selfless behavior. I do, however, see a tremendous
movement toward more soulfull living, a greater interest in creativity,
imagination and freedom, less willingness to sell one's body, mind, heart
and spirit to the "company store", a massive desire for purpose and
meaning in life, and a growing maturity toward the realization that Life
is complex, that there are no easy answers, and that collaboration and a
willingness to learn are critical components of finding our way in this
ever-changing world in which we live.

Polarity is a universal principle - dark, light, good, evil, male, female,
etc. We live in a world of comparison.

I absolutely agree that folks like those who participate on this list are
important. These people are way-showers, pathfinders, shepherds and
innovators - people who are willing to investigate and learn - willing to
be seen as what Barry refers to as "effete, deviod of reality, stuck in
phrases, insular, exclusionary by the very level of our dialogue." It
takes a lot of courage and willingness to patiently walk "the road less
traveled." That road is fraught with danger, loss, ridicule,
misunderstanding, rotten tomatoes and God knows what all - but thank
Heaven there are those who are willing to walk it.

Finally, I'll say it again. Yes, I do think it is possible for humanity
to become consciously, spiritually, self aware and mature. Anything is
possible. Probable? Who knows? For the vast majority of the human race?
Probably not - at least until critical mass is reached - and maybe never.
I do, however, know this: we'll never know unless we try.

And I, for one, am going to try.
