Who said cooperation provides a "safe harbour". I find cooperation
to be at least as demanding as competition. (Actually I find
competition easier.) >>>

I don't even think that animals pray on each other. From what I know,
animals really take care of the weaker members of the groups that serve as
food for them. In fact, it is necessary that the weak deer serve as food
for the wolves, because the weak and sick members of the deer population
would eventually create more serious problems for the healthy deer!
