I have used a taxonomy for a number of years which differentiates
among three major types of learning programs. This taxonomy is
from the work of HRD professional Len Nadler.
Training - learning related to the present job of the individual.
Education - learning related to a future but defined job for which
the individual is being prepared.
Development - learning for the general growth of the individual and /or
the organization.
The focus of learning determines the appropriate learning activities.
