Hi Everyone ...

I have been lurking in the background for a few months. Thought that I
should introduce myself and begin adding to the conversations.

I am Jack Patterson. My current employer is Chevron Canada Resources
(CCR). We are in the middle of one of the "R" words (re-structuring,
re-sizing, re-ducing ...), hence my current position is in Transition.
Past positions that I have held have been as a training coordinator for
computing training, facilitative trainer on the use of quality tools for
problem solving and team building, and Quality Representative for
Information Technology Services.

My interests, related to learning, are quite varied, I am a generalist.
The areas that I have most interest in are the use of technology as an aid
to adult learning and community learning, creativity, organizational
learning and its impact (implementatio n) within the business world. I am
also interested in problem solving processes (in this regard I have also
subscribed to the Break Through Thinking list serv).

Challenges that I have in the business world is relating the impact
(value) of learning and a learning organization. That is, why a learning
organization is important to an accountant or a production engineer or a
geophsyicist. I have read the replies t o the question posed by Rick
Karesh. How does some one value ($$$) the results of a learning
organization?

I have completed a project looking at how we currently address learning
within CCR and making recommendations on improvements to the current
system. I am currently looking at the value of information flow or
information use and systems to enhance informa tion flow.

I am very new to the net and expect the moderator to help edit any
mistakes I make in the subject matter that I send to this discussion
group. I look forward to joing in on some of the threads on this
listserv.
