Advanced Program in Corporate Renewal:
Managing Business Transformation in Established Firms

April 9-13, 1995

"The web of relations is the firm" - Tom Peters

Long term productivity differences among companies may be accounted for by
differential investments in 'human capital.' These 'soft' assets are hard
to manage, difficult to see and impossible to measure by conventional
means. This program presents leading-edge management principles and
methods for measuring and managing human capital in a way that rapidly and
materially impacts the firm's bottom line.

Through computerized visualization, the intellectual capital in firms is
mapped and measured as a system of work relationships, information flows,
and knowledge exchanges. These pictures of a firm's assets and their
interconnection enable executives and managers to understand current
trends toward virtualization, to appreciate more fully the consequences of
moving away from predominance of the hierarchy, and to exploit new
opportunities - including IT-based ones - to align their organizations
according to their goals and core competencies. This way of managing
corporate renewal will be explained, compared with alternative paradigms
and illustrated via actual case studies.

Program attendees will improve their ability to:

* Lead the renewal process
* Advance 'beyond Baldgrige' - what to do after quality programs are in place
* Develop the human side of reengineering
* See 'work practice' - how an organization really works
* Link business outcome to organizational effectiveness
* Develop their organizations as interconnected systems
* Diagnose and leverage organizational subcultures
* Orchestrate information flow and knowledge exchange in the organization
* Identify new roles and responsibilities for executives and managers
* Develop change management as a core competency
