In the late 1700's, a group known as the Continental Congress spent a few
years creating a vision of a new nation. They did a fair job of
documenting their thoughts and there is at least one well-known product,
the US Declaration of Independence. Viewed in this light I think this may
take on new meaning for you. Perhaps most significant to me is that some
of the greatest minds that could be assembled at the time got together,
and spent 30 years on the process. Lesson: ye reap as ye sow. If you want
a good vision, and I do believe it's critical to later success, then spend
serious time and effort to develop it.

There are plenty of good corporate visions, but I know of few government
examples. I do like that one, however. Hope it helps.

Good June-uary learning-org-ers!

I co-chair a recently funded regional technology planning board (it's called
K+ - for Knowledge Plus). I want to demonstrate the concept of vision and
what a good one represents for an organiz'n (especially a startup). While my
intention is *not* to pick and choose from among those that already exist, I
do want the board to get a sense of how a good one is framed and what it can
do, both within and outside of the organization.

Can you help me? I am seeking well-stated visions from companies; other
organizations; and municipalities (if they're out there!). I got some major
motivation yesterday from M.L.King's "I Have a Dream" speech - if that's not a
vision, I don't know what is!

I hope to reinforce my belief that our vision should articulate broad goals,
in no small part because our funding, Depts of Education & Econ. Develop't, is
predicated on us serving as a pilot/template for similar initiatives in the
state. If we don't dream the big dream, who will?

I'll be happy to provide contributers with updates on the progress of the
board.

Thank you for any assistance you can provide.
