Stever Robbins: Competition etc.

This thread reminds me of work done by Alfred Hubler and David Pines at
the Santa Fe Institute. Their work describes the leader/follower
principle for two independent agents. I am doing this by memeory but
their work is in the 1994 book with complexity in the title which
describes an earlier Summer SFI seminar.

Their results indicate that head-to-head competition between the two
agents is disadvantageous to both. A better strategy is for one to
take the lead and for the other to follow that leader. The follower
derives less benefit than the leader. By following an
appropriate environment for both to prosper is developed and
maintained.
