I don't think that there is a specific structure for a learning
organization. On the contrary, as the organization learns and advances
toward whatever the organization wants to achieve, its structure will
evolve as the result of the learning. I would say that the organization
that is a fully learning organization would not really need too much of a
structure, because this organization would be relying very heavily on
concurrent learning. In this learning environment things happen very fast,
minimizing delays, and reducing the "size" of the "white spaces". So,
structures evolves with learning! For instance, Ford (since we have been
talking about it), laid off some 4,000 managers back in the late 1970's or
early 1980's. Regardles of the reason for doing this, the company learned
that it could still function (probably more efficiently) without these
employees. THis led to some changes in the structure, which led to
more learning,...

Awareness, mutual trust, listening, recognizing "the managerial mind" of
the employees, trying new ways, etc. are all factors necessary for learning
to take place, and this learning (experiential events) will lead to major
changes in the existing structures!
