Our Trip to
Maine, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island

Tom at North Cape, PEI
North Cape, PEI has the longest reef in the world.  The tide was in, so we just saw the waves breaking over the reef.  It was very windy and we got hair full of sand!  The folks gather Irish moss as the tide goes out, using Belgian draft horses.  They need such massive horses because the horses are sometimes up to their chests in the water, dragging a big basket behind them to gather the moss and carrying their rider.
We really like PEI.  It is famous for the series set there at the turn of the century, "Anne of Green Gables".  There is lots of crochet around, mostly using cotton warp thread.  The island depends on fishing, Irish moss, potatoes and tourism for its living.  It felt like the Vineyard was 40 years ago, but this was where we found public access terminals to check our e-mail!  After too short a time, it was back across the bridge to New Brunswick.  We hit the peak of fall colours!  The leaves were magnificent, but no matter what we tried, none of the pictures we took really captured the beauty.
