The Maritime Museum in Lunenberg is world-class. On the ground floor is an aquarium of local fish, on the upper floors are displays about the history of fishing and fish processing in the area. On the top floor is a small movie theatre showing historic documentaries. We watched one made in the 20's of rounding Cape Horn. Incredible movie! We wished we could have stayed for the rest! Then outside are large displays of boat building and boats to climb aboard. In nice weather, which this wasn't, they take folks out for a short sail. If you are ever in the area, this is a super museum with a very nice staff. Tom asked all about weaving sailcloth and they had lots of ideas to discuss and pointers on where to ask next. |
We had breakfast the next day in Mahone Bay. The town was covered in imaginative scarecrows. Each business had one - sometimes many more - scarecrow out representing what they cared about. There was a mermaid scarecrow reclining on a raft out in the water! This 'crow was made of flower pots. We want to go back to Mahone Bay! |
This is a typical shot of the southeastern coast. Lots of little fishing boats and Victorian houses. |
