Born April 23, 1895 in Silesia, Austria and died about 1972 in Florence, Italy, of complications following bowl surgery. Alfred Vogl married ?. She joined the Nazi party after Alfred divorced her, nothing else known. Alfred's father, Theodore, was an inventor by profession, not very successful and according to Alfred smoked an evil smelling pipe. Died after Tom was born, probably 1931 or 1932.
Alfred's mother was Melanie.
Alfred's half-brother was Paul Tanzer. (Tom isn't sure where the Tanzers came from - maybe Alfred's mother remarried? Tom remembers his father said that Paul took the name "Tanzer." Not clear!) Paul was a musician. He wrote the music to "I Kiss Your Hand Madame." He died in Paris at the end of World War II, about 1945.

Divorced in 1933 or 1934 in Vienna, Austria. Shulamith Marek Marareta Marek, born March 1, 1903 and died July 20, 1983 of bowl cancer.

Alfred married Ruth ?, in Vienna, Austria. She died giving birth to Walter Theodore Vogl, 1935.
Walter 1942 (probably Lotte in the background), Blue Mountain Lake, New York Walter 1950. Died in a car wreck about 1950, on the Taconnick Parkway near Bard College, in New York State.

Alfred married Charlotte (Lotte). She was a kindergarten teacher when he married her in Vienna and a lay child psychoanalyst when he divorced her in New York. Divorced about 1947 or 1948. (Tom really liked Lotte.)
Lotte 1942, Blue Mountain Lake, New York Lotte married Karney after she and Alfred divorced. Tom remembers Karney giving him a ride in his Piper Cub.

Alfred married Lillian. Melanie was born to them August 9, 1948. Alfred died while married to Lillian. Lillian died around 1980 of breast cancer. Walter, Melanie, Lillian, Alfred, Tom Lillian came for St. Paul, MN. She married a man who had a breakdown on their wedding night and was institutionalized for the rest of is life. They were divorced. Lillian was an X-ray technician. She wasn't very fond of Shulamith, Tom & Katherine, but actually things smoothed over fairly well when Melanie brought Lillian as an unexpected guest to a big family Thanksgiving at Tom & Katherine's apartment in Bethesda with most of Tom's family including Shulamith.

Melanie married Jim Rabjohn in the early 1970s and was later divorced. Melanie died July 23, 1989 of breast cancer in Boulder, Colorado.
