Rats, Bats & Vats
by Dave Freer & Eric Flint ISBN 067131940X |
Very well done military SF. "Uplifted" rats, bats and cloned humans are serfs bred to fight the invading bugs. Subplots center on a romance,an incompetent military bureacracy and the stratified society that spawned it, and alien allies. |

| The Keeper
of Dreams
by Peter Shann Ford ISBN 0684872196 |
Amazing book! Characters in this novel/mystery are Australian Aborigines, a NASA astronaut, and surivors of various battles. If you enjoyed how The Skull Mantra portrayed Tibet, try this one for the flavor of ancient and modern Australia. This is my favorite book about Australian mythology since Patricia Wrightson's out-of-print series The Book or Wirrun (Volume 1: The Ice is Coming) | ![]() |
| The Truth
by Terry Pratchett ISBN |
Merely OK Pratchett is better than no Pratchett. I'd rank this book along with my other "less favorite" Pterrys - such as Mort, Moving Pictures, Reaper Man. It has some of the most unpleasant bad guys on the Discworld, a memorable vampire and a printing press. | ![]() |
| The Thief of Time
by Terry Pratchett ISBN |
This is one of the best Prachetts! Favorite characters return and grow up some more (Susan Death, the History Monks, DEATH and DEATH OF RATS), interesting new characters and Pterry's special kind of Discworld science. Quantum! This one ranks right up there with my favorite Pratchetts (Lords & Ladies, Carpe Jugulum, Fifth Elephant.) | ![]() |
