I Kiss Your Hand, Madame

The July
2000 issue of Parlor Songs has a wonderful article about I Kiss
Your Hand, Madame, the cover of the original sheet music, lyrics in
English and German, and a midi file of the song.
Tom
Vog's comments about the sheet music cover
In this Paul Brull edition
of the sheet music, copyright 1928 in Berlin, the cover page is headlined
"We [sic] kiss you hand, madame". The 'we' refers to the 13 popular
singers who had already recorded the song. These, with the recod label
on which they recorded, in the order they appear on the cover, are:
Jack
Smith, Electrola
Hans
Heinz Bollman, Homocord
Dajos
Bela, Odeon (the inside cover states that the song is dedicated to his
wife)
Richard
Tauber, Odeon
Austin
Egen, Electrola
Marek
Weber, Electrola
Efim
Schachmeister, Grammaphon
Max
Kuttner, Tri-Ergon
Harry
Liedtke, (in the Marlene Dietrich Movie for Deutsche Lichtspiel Syndikat)
Max
Hansen, Grammophon
Theo
Lucas, Vox
Paul
Godwin, Grammophon
In a copyright statement
at the bottom of the first page, it appears as if the original copyright
for the song was issued in Holland 1 November 1912, but that may be a misintepretation
on our part.
Below is a list of performers
of the song and the title it was sung under. I think it is a very
incomplete list. An *asterisk means that I have the song in MP3 format.
Many of the versions are incomplete and I'm trying to find better ones.
I think there are many more versions out there in languages other than
French, German and English. If you know of a translation of the title
and where I can find a copy of the song, please send me a note!

Used as background music on
television in episodes. The words in parens are my best guess at
the title. I'm working
off of the ASCAP distribution statement that cuts off the last words of
the titles.
