The pattern is from http://www.wiseneedle.com/patternpage.asp?pattern=knitpatimp

which is Kim Salazar's wonderful "Impossible Socks".  But I knit them at my normal gauge, 7 spi, using Lorna's Laces Shepard Sock Yarn in Pine and Harvest.  They are the first real successful stranded work (not including the slip stitch socks which really don't count) I've done and they have inspired me to cast on for a pair that will be lots of little red and cream peerie patterns on a chocolate background.

It was just about a year ago I taught myself to knit, and I knit mostlysocks in Opal.  But the mini-sock project was great because I learned how to do short row heels, stranded color work (which I love), slip stitch patterns (also love) and cables (which aren't for me at least just yet).  I'll continue knitting Opal - particularly for those SIPs that travel with me. But the next stay-at-home-and-knit socks will be a slip stitch brick pattern for DH and a mosaic for me.  After that will come a Fair Isle pair! 14 Dec 03
