J-MADE DIGEST #9 and 9a

Subject: Adding heddles

In our recent warping of the J-comp with 48 epi across 48 inches, we
trealized that we may not have enough heddles on some shafts, even
though i incremented the heddle load to 160 heddles per shaft.  It turns
out we were about 6 heddles short on eight shafts.

The point of this message is to point out that it is easy to add heddles
on the fly, with most of the loom slayed, ***provided*** (and that is
the point) you slay from the side of the frames that have the 'L' shaped
retainer for the rods that hold the heddles (which should all be on the
same side).  If you do this, it is easy to raise any one frame, turn the
top 'L' retainer 90 degrees, retract the rod just an inch or two, and
slip additional heddles onto the other end.  The rod then slides back
into place and the procedure is repeated for the bottom rod.

Note that requires that you slay in the correct direction across the
loom and that all the 'L' retainers are on the same side.

Cheers,

T.

Good evening, this is Kathy thanks for contacting me. Yes I would like
to be on your list.  I just have a small 30" table loom with their floor
conversion kit, but I just love it. Back in 1979 -I rechecked the
receipt I still have-I decided I wanted to finally learn how to weave so
I took a  class in Denver, Co.. and I ordered this loom because it
wasn't
too big and intimidating but big enough to make things with. I took a
couple of basic classics and then wove several pieces. Do to life's
changes etc. I have been away from weaving for 10-15 years and really
want to get back into it again.  So I found about the weavers chat line,
and a  weavers guild in my area, and while digging back in my memory
banks on how to warp my loom -I am back into weaving again.

My J made is a 4 harness made of maple and I just love it, it has a very
wide shed that makes weaving easy too. I have been thinking of saving
up for one of their rug looms and last year my husband bought me an
antique one. We hope to be retired and moved to Missouri in 4 years-
so as I set up my weaving area may decide to get a 8 harness J Made.
Thanks for including me in your list.

Kathy
