Subject: An addendum to J-Digest 10 I forgot to mention that a very worthwhile loom maintenance task, to be performed at least annually, more often in humid climates, is to wipe down with an oily cloth or paper towel the steel rods that activate the shafts (one set on the right edge of the castle that push up) and the others a pair of shafts holding the frames up. Otherwise, a film of rust will build up on them, which is undesirable. Cheers, Tom.
Subject: Intro-J-Made
Hi Tom, I'm sorry it took me so long to answer your welcome note and I thank you for adding me to the J-Made list. My name is Bonnie McComb and I'm a relatively new weaver. (A beginner diving in over her head!!) In preparation for retirement I took a few lessons from Sally Stewart in Washington, DC. I got the four shaft basics from her and learned more at MAFA last summer. In May of last year I retired and moved to West Virginia. As a member of the Weaver's Roundtable and the Central Penn Weaver's Guild I have learned a lot. Unfortunately I'm lazy and haven't woven much, a few scarves, table runners, place mats and the like. I tend to spend more time planning on the computer than actually producing anything. I really must get on the stick! Last week I drove, with my husband, to Kentucky to pick up my treasure! The Franciscan Friars (primarily Brother Mark) sold me their cherry 16 shaft J-Made! Boy, am I excited! Once I get my husband to make me a new shaft hanger to replace the missing one and buy some heddles, I'll be on my way. It will be great to have a list for support! Take care of yourselves and keep in touch. Beannacht Leat! Bonnie ========================================================
