Self Patterning Yarn - such as Opal or Regia
Pros: Plain knitting produces interesting or complex patterns
Usually made of high quality machine washable wool
with some nylon
Great for beginning sock knitters or “mindless” knitting
100 grams/425 meters usually enough for an adult pair and
toddler/baby pair of socks.
Cons: Can be tricky to make socks match
Sometimes difficult to predict what pattern will emerge,
Often costs more than solid colors, limited production runs
Must knit to gauge using small (US size 0 to 2) needles
Pattern only works socks, will not show up properly on
sweaters, hats, etc. |
