NCTJ does not run courses. It approves courses at a number of educational establishments in the UK. For equal opps reasons NCTJ also approves various Access courses aimed at getting more "ethnic minority" candidates into the profession. For these you don't need the minimum educational attainments normally required. NCTJ training comes in two flavours - a full time one year Pre-Entry course, favoured by graduates (tho' many who take it are not graduates), and an Indentured course - you get a job, sign indentures for usually three years, and they send you away two years running for a total of 16 weeks full time study while giving you on-the-job training. You can only take the PC exam after having been in the job for two years, if indentured, or slightly less if you have the Pre-Entry under yr belt. The usual advice is: Get a degree in *anything* but journalism, media studies etc. This may change with the advent of such as Broadcast Journalism BA at Nottingham Trent University which one of our Access students is taking. ***** Full details can be obtained from: NCTJ, Latton Bush Centre, Southern Way, HARLOW, Essex CM20 7BL; tel no 01279-430009.
