I wholeheatedly agree with your philosophy of journalism, but >I've got a little question. What are those "other papers" you speak of? Are >there several? Are they school-run? Are they any good? There are two other papers. The Sagamore receives $5,000/year from the school. The Sagamore seems to be a standard, run-of-the-mill school funded paper. The news is shallow and fairly one-sided, and the rest of the paper is fairly boring. The Amaranth was the "original" independent paper. It is about 5 years old, but they may fold after this year (due to lack of staff). The Amaranth has, in the past, had extremely biased news. Recently, they have put an emphasis on humorous features. The Amaranth, although entertaining, is not what I would call serious journalism. >You mentioned a "school regulation" that required you to have an FA. What is >this? What is the regulation, exactly? What would happen if you didn't comply? Well, actually, I'm not sure that there is a specific regulation that says the school can force us to have an advisor. If we fired our advisor probably very little would happen. Since all the school provides us is a room in which to meet (denying us this right would violate the school constitution), there is little action they could take against us. I do believe, however, that having an FA lends us a certain amount of credibility in the eyes of the administration. -Jascha
