words fail me

October 19, 2004

OK, now I am really excited. I was screaming "He did it! He did it!" into the phone at Ned last night until we got disconnected by some weird phone glitch. I emailed my friends: "Tim Wakefield rocks and David Ortiz rules! And I'm going to bed to try to sleep." Beyond that words fail me. Actually that was the best baseball game I have ever seen. Even better than game 5 of the 1986 ALCS in Anaheim, which I saw live and in person in the Anaheim bleachers. Last night was better.

I did not sleep at all Sunday night or should I say Monday morning. I was a zombie, though a happy one, at work. I got some amount of sleep last night only because the game started at 5:00 PM. I was punchy at work. On the other hand, so were a lot of people.

I have gone from not caring at all to antsy anticipation of Game 6 tonight. The Yankees fan who poured my coffee at Perfecto's this morning was looking sheepish. Everywhere I went all day, snippets of conversation floated by: "Damon has just got to start hitting." "It all depends on Schilling's ankle." "Who's going to come in after Schiliing?" Everywere. The coffee shop, the gas station, my shrink's waiting room, the grocery store...
