sweep

October 9, 2004

Another glorious morning here in Red Sox Nation in the early 21st century at the peak of October's glorious, though cliched, foliage. The Red Sox have swept the Angels and all is right with the world.

I left a message on the Hermit Potter's voice mail last night with just two words: David Ortiz!

I flipped back and forth between the Yankees/Twins game and the presidential debate and told all my friends I really want to see John Kerry strike out A-Rod. Mixed metaphor? Anyway, as much as I love seeing A-Rod strike out, I kind of want the ALCS to be Red Sox/Yankees not Red Sox/Twins. After all it is vastly more fun to watch Tim Wakefield strike out A-Rod. As for the debate, I thought it was a tie. Maybe a slight edge to Kerry. Red carpet and blue walls didn't do much for me. And why are ordinary citizens' questions so much more interesting and pointed than journalists' questions?

I've been answering my phone "David Ortiz" now instead of my trademark "Egan World" or "Dick Cheney" -- you kind of have to be embedded in my life t\o understand why I answer the phone "Dick Cheney" but now that I've switched to "David Ortiz" it's perfectly understandable.

Daaaaaaavvviiiid Ooooorrrrrrttttiiizzz!
