Resume of H. Edward Abelson

NED ABELSON is a Director at Goulston & Storrs in Boston, where he concentrates his practice on environmental law. He provides general representation concerning environmental matters to the firm’s real estate and corporate clients, and handles the environmental aspects of the many different transactions in which they are involved. A considerable amount of his practice involves property subject to the Massachusetts Contingency Plan (the “MCP”) and sites involved with Brownfields issues. In addition, Mr. Abelson assists the firm’s real estate, litigation, corporate and lender clients in generally understanding, anticipating and managing hazardous waste issues. His practice has also involved land development, construction, and associated site planning and redevelopment issues, and related permitting and contractual matters. Mr. Abelson’s work with corporate clients has involved directing environmental audits and compliance programs, and providing general counsel with respect to environmental matters. He advises clients on obtaining necessary permits for company operations and on anticipating and maintaining compliance with new environmental statutes and regulations. He also advises clients concerning how to respond to environmental inspections and enforcement actions. In addition, a significant portion of Mr. Abelson’s corporate work is transactional in nature.

Mr. Abelson is a member of the American Bar Association Brownfields Task Force and the Liability Subcommittee of the Massachusetts Brownfields Advisory Group. He is also the Chairman of the International Council of Shopping Centers (“ICSC”) Subcommittee on Environmental Issues. In addition, he is a member of the Chicago Brownfields Forum Model Loan Package Group, which developed a model Brownfields documentation lending package. He regularly participates in the preparation of comments concerning proposed MCP revisions on behalf of the MCP Subcommittee of the Associated Industries of Massachusetts (“AIM”) and the Boston Bar Association. He currently co-chairs the 21E Subcommittee of the Massachusetts chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (“NAIOP”) and is a participating member of the Massachusetts Environmental Justice Network. Mr. Abelson regularly writes articles concerning environmental matters for the Boston Business Journal and Banker & Tradesman, and has published articles in several other periodicals. He has also spoken on Brownfields and hazardous waste issues at seminars given by EPA, PLI, AIG, ICSC, NAIOP, AIM, MCLE, the Boston Bar Association, and the Massachusetts Bankers Association, among others.

Mr. Abelson was graduated magna cum laude from Brown University and received his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
