By daybreak, clouds from the next weather system were beginning to roll in. Clouds will increase and thicken this morning. Rain and snow will spread west to east across southern New England this afternoon. The precipitation is expected to be predominantly snow north and west of Worcester, and mainly rain this afternoon south and east of Worcester, including the greater Boston, Providence and Hartford areas. High temperatures this afternoon will range mostly from the mid 30s to around 40. The precipitation will change to snow tonight along and northwest of the Boston to Providence corridor, but remain as mostly rain across southern Rhode Island and southeast Massachusetts. Low temperatures tonight will range from the mid 20s across southwest New Hampshire and northwest Massachusetts to the mid 30s over Cape Cod and the islands. Several inches of snow are possible across the higher terrain of interior southern New England late this afternoon and tonight. Colder air accompanied by strong wind gusts and snow showers will move into southern New England on Sunday. Snow squalls during late morning or afternoon on Sunday could produce brief whiteout conditions and a quick 1 or 2" of snow in scattered locations. Also, especially across the Connecticut river valley, southern Rhode Island, and southeast Massachusetts any water or slush on road surfaces could quickly freeze. High temperatures Sunday will be mostly in the 30s north and west of a Boston to Providence line, and in the lower 40s to the southeast. Temperatures, however, will drop rapidly late Sunday afternoon into Sunday evening as the arctic air becomes established over the region. A warm front will approach southern New England late this afternoon. Then, an arctic front will cross New England on Sunday, ushering in very blustering conditions. === The weather observed at WORCESTER, MA at 07:54 AM EST was: === The skies were cloudy.
