Temperatures were in the 30s. An inch or 2 of slushy accumulation is possible in the high terrain along the northern Massachusetts border into the Monadnocks this mornintg before the change to rain there. Elsewhere, rain, some of it briefly heavy this morning will gradually diminish this afternoon as the low pressure center which was over Delaware at 5 am, moves out to sea off the southeast New England coast late today. It will be a cool day north of the Massachusetts turnpike with temperatures holding in the 30s while the mercury recovers into the 40s across Connecticut, Rhode Island and southeast Massachusetts this afternoon. A bit of rain or drizzle will continue tonight and early Saturday, especially along the south coast as a second area of low pressure passes south of the region. Lows tonight will be in the 30s. Skies may brighten Saturday afternoon as it tends to dry out a bit. Highs should be a few degrees warmer. Then from Sunday into the middle of next week, an extended period of northeast winds is forecast as strengthening high pressure is featured over the Maritimes.
