As the low exits, its snow shield may graze Cape Cod and the islands this morning, with a dusting to an inch possible. Otherwise, sunshine will develop this afternoon along with a brisk northwest wind. Chilly temperatures are expected with highs only in the upper 20s to lower 30s, a few degrees below normal. Dry weather and seasonable temperatures are on tap Thursday, as weak high pressure slides across the area. By Thursday night and Friday, a more potent low in the form of a coastal storm will emerge off the Carolina coast Friday morning. Thereafter, the exact track of the storm remains uncertain, however latest indications are for the low to pass about 100 miles east southeast of Nantucket Friday afternoon. This track is favorable for moderate to heavy snowfall across southern New England. However, in the absence of cold high pressure over northern New England and southeast Canada, warmer air off the ocean will likely intrude northwest into the Boston to Providence corridor. Thus, snow will likely change to rain Friday along the coast and northwest into Boston and Providence, and possibly into the Interstate 84 and Interstate 90 corridors. Despite increasing chances for a changeover to rain across much of the eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island, several inches of snow are possible before the changeover. Farther inland where the precipitation is likely to remain all snow, a modest snowfall is possible. However, given the exact track and intensity of the low remains somewhat uncertain, stay tuned to later forecasts and statements regarding this possible winter storm late Thursday night and Friday. === The weather observed at WORCESTER, MA at 07:54 AM EST was: === The skies were mostly clear.
