Early morning temperatures ranged from the teens across southern New Hampshire and northwest Massachusetts, to mainly the 20s elsewhere. Winds were rather light from a northwesterly direction. Partly to mostly cloudy skies are expected today, although a few peaks of sunshine are still expected. Most of the day should be dry, but a few flurries or perhaps a passing snow shower will be possible south of the Massachusetts turnpike. High temperatures will generally remain in the 20s, to near 30 along the south coast. An arctic cold front will sweep across the region tonight. Other than a few snow flurries or an isolated snow shower, it should mainly come through dry. However, bitterly cold air will invade the region as the mercury tumbles into the single digits. Bitterly cold wind chills of between 10 and 20 below zero will develop by early Friday morning. The bitter cold and strong winds can freeze exposed flesh in a matter of minutes, so dress warmly. Layers of protective clothing are more effective than a single layer of thick clothing. Partly sunny skies are expected on Friday with the exception of the outer Cape. However, it will be bitterly cold as arctic air will be in control of our weather. Highs should only top out between 10 and 15° with wind chills remaining well below zero all day under gusty northwest winds. Some locations in the higher terrain will not even reach 10°. Record low maximum temperatures may be set across portions of the region. Meanwhile, across the outer-cape ocean effect snow showers will affect the region very late tonight into Friday. Snow accumulations of between 1 and 3" are expected from Provincetown, to wellfleet, southward to Chatham. A warm front will move through the region on Saturday. This should allow for afternoon high temperatures to recover into the upper 20s and lower 30s. This will certainly feel balmy after the bitterly cold weather we will see on Friday. === The weather observed at WORCESTER, MA at 07:54 AM EST was: === The skies were clear.
