It was mostly clear overnight, except in portions of southwest New Hampshire and along the immediate slopes of the Berkshires where it was partly to mostly cloudy. Clouds also invaded Cape Cod and Nantucket for a time, but then moved eastward out to sea. It was quite brisk, with winds gusting to 30 mph at times overnight. Overnight low temperatures ranged from single digits in the northwest to the teens in the southeast, even across the Cape and islands. Wind chill values dropped to below zero in western Massachusetts and southwest New Hampshire. Today will be partly to mostly sunny, but windy and very cold with high temperatures struggling to reach 30° in many areas. Winds will be gusting to 30 to 35 mph at times, especially over southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The winds are the result of the gradient between low pressure east of Newfoundland and high pressure over Hudson Bay. Gale warnings are posted for the outer coastal waters. Winds will diminish tonight and with clear skies, another very cold night is in store. Lows will range from 5 to 10 above in western Massachusetts and southwest New Hampshire, to 20 to 25 on the Cape and islands. A much nicer day is forecast for Sunday as high pressure builds into New England. With a good deal of sunshine, temperatures will moderate and should approach 40 across much of the region. Clouds will increase late in the day in Connecticut. A very slow moving, but not particularly intense, low pressure system will pass to our south and east from Sunday night into early Tuesday morning. A prolonged period of light snow is forecast, except on Cape Cod and the islands where a mix is possible. The greatest chance of accumulating snowfall will be in Connecticut, Rhode Island, and southeast Massachusetts. Several inches are possible, but they will occur over a 24-36 hour period of time. Stay tuned to later forecasts on this situation. Quiet weather will settle in for a few days around midweek, then another system will approach on Friday, possibly bringing a mixed bag of precipitation. === The weather observed at WORCESTER, MA at 08:54 AM EST was: === The skies were clear.
