A few flurries occurred overnight in the interior under partly cloudy skies. Strong west winds of 40 to 45 mph were already blowing from the Berkshires to white plains New York into central Pennsylvania. Winds will steadily increase in our area today in advance of strong cold front moving southeastward through New England and New York state. Flurries and scattered brief heavier snow showers are possible this morning into midday in advance of the front. Rather strong northwest winds are expected this afternoon as sunshine increases in response to the influx of dry polar cold. The mercury will be tumbling through the 20s. Tonight will be bitterly cold with strong winds this evening letting up during the night. Under clear skies, low temperatures early Sunday morning should range from the single digits north of the Mass Turnpike to the teens elsewhere. Sunday will see temperatures recover to around 30 in the afternoon with plenty of bright sunshine but brisk winds. Intense low pressure over the Maritimes will begin weakening late tonight.
