Scattered flurries passed by overnight. Morning temperatures ranged from the single digits interior Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire to the teens elsewhere. A sunny but very cold day is at hand with any remaining clouds and flurries on the Cape ending by late morning. Highs will only be within a few degrees of 20. Blustery northwest winds will add a substantial chilling effect to the day. Tonight will be mostly clear with less wind chill. Temperatures will range from the single numbers interior to the teens urban centers, Cape and islands. Skies will rapidly cloud over Thursday with milder afternoon high temperatures, mostly 30 to 35°. A period of precipitation is forecast Thursday night and Friday morning. Any snow along the coast should change to rain. The interior should see mostly snow with generally light accumulations by daybreak Friday. Temperatures will warm up a bit more on Friday after the precipitation quickly ends by midday. This mornings weather map finds strong high pressure moving east from the Ohio valley which will cross southern New England tonight. Rapidly intensifying low pressure will move northeast from the Carolina coast late Thursday through Cape Cod Friday morning and then park in the Maritimes this weekend, spewing a cold and very windy airmass into the region.
