Readings at dawn today were generally in the 20s except scattered teens in some of the countryside. Clouds will be steadily increasing today and it will be mild with highs ranging from 40 to 45 in southwest New Hampshire and along the east slopes of the Berkshires, to the low or mid 50s over northeast Rhode Island and much of eastern Massachusetts. It will be cooler along the south coast. There is a chance of showers developing during the afternoon in the interior, especially western Massachusetts and southwest New Hampshire. Gusty southwest winds to 30 mph are expected in parts of the region this afternoon. A two to 6 hour wide band of showers will affect much of southern New England tonight, although the Cape and islands may escape the arrival prior to dawn Sunday. Lows will be even milder than the readings of this morning, generally within a few degrees of 40 in eastern sections of Rhode Island and Massachusetts but ranging down to the upper 20s in southwest New Hampshire and northwest Massachusetts where clearing occurs late this coming Sunday night. That clearing may allow a little black ice to form toward dawn Sunday in Cheshire and Franklin counties. Any leftover showers in eastern Massachusetts will quickly end by mid or late morning with a sunny to partly sunny and seasonably mild afternoon. Highs are projected to range from the mid 40s to around 50. Northwest winds will be gusty. A warming trend is expected early next week with temperatures rising into the 50s and possibly the lower 60s, away from the direct cooling influence of the nearby ocean waters. High pressure was moving eastward, away from coastal New England. A cold front crossing this Great Lakes this morning will pass through southern New England early Sunday. High pressure will follow into the mid Atlantic states by Monday and then anchor in the west central Atlantic Tuesday and Wednesday. === The weather observed at WORCESTER, MA at 07:54 AM EST was: === The skies were partly cloudy.
